‘showrooms’
as part of the Catalyst arts Digital residency

‘show-rooms’ the first iteration of a project by eva duerden for the Catalyst Digital Residency, using language from catalgoues, early games design and rudimentary website building. These rendered spaces are made for curiosity, furnished with artifacts and clues, like showing a new friend around your room, looking for the tells, the easter eggs for what you are about, what is the stand in for the person when they are absent.

‘show-rooms’ are scenes for ejd*props muses, using the format of early ‘point and click’ games to provoke searching and physical printed catalogues like Argos. Experimenting with techniques used in catalogues, these scenes are supposed to suggest the person, create a familiarity, but also conjure the feeling of newness, the novelty of your new promised favorite thing, almost in reach

tourist
[tour·ist]
/ˈtʊə.rɪst/

- someone who visits a place for pleasure and interest

feeling of seeing something as though it were in a different key or hue, ability to approach your scene, transposed, seesawing between the naive and the knowledge of where you came from (comparison). mundanity in new conditions can become intriguing.

criteria is off kilter, awry, trying to get ‘it’ right with different coordinates, not sure what you should be doing, a novice, you also feel new. what is correct, what is the done thing?
